Container Aerodynamics

Founder & Managing Director · 2024–Present

Container Aerodynamics is a company I founded to develop the Aerodome, a removable aerodynamic roof fairing for ISO shipping containers transported by road. The project grew from an original concept developed with my dad, James, and has progressed through several years of design, modelling, testing and prototype development.

The Project

The Aerodome was developed around a relatively simple problem: shipping containers are designed primarily for carrying cargo rather than aerodynamic efficiency, leaving a large, flat surface exposed at the front when transported by road.

The project explores whether a removable aerodynamic structure can reduce this drag without requiring permanent modification to the container, truck or trailer.

Development has included CAD modelling, computational fluid dynamics, wind-tunnel testing and the manufacture of scale prototypes. This has allowed the concept to progress from an initial idea towards a design intended for manufacture and real-world testing.

Where It Is Now

The project is currently progressing towards the manufacture and testing of a full-size Aerodome.

This represents the next major step from modelling and scale testing towards validating the concept under real operating conditions. Alongside the technical development, I'm continuing to work on funding, industry relationships and the commercial foundations needed to take the project further.

My Involvement

I founded Container Aerodynamics Ltd in 2024 and have since led the commercial development of the company as Managing Director.

My work has covered much more than one specific area. I've been involved in developing the business model and commercial strategy, preparing funding applications, researching the transport and logistics market, approaching potential industry partners and customers, developing the company's branding and online presence, and planning the route towards manufacturing, trials and eventual commercialisation.

I've also remained involved in the wider development of the Aerodome itself, working alongside James on the progression of the concept, prototypes and testing.

Container Aerodynamics has given me experience of taking a technical idea and beginning to build the business, funding, partnerships and practical plan required to turn it into something that can be tested in the real world.
